Allahabad High Court sets up committee to monitor mining probe

The Allahabad High Court bench here today constituted a committee to monitor the probe into alleged illegal mining in some parts of the state.

A division bench comprising justices Devi Prasad Singh and SC Chaurasia passed the order on a writ petition seeking diretion to stop illegal mining.

The court also directed the five-member committee to file its report every two months after monitoring the progress of the probe.

Deputy director general of Geological Survey of India would be its chairman.

The petition had contended that due to illegal mining, ecological balance might be disturbed.
