The city sessions court on Wednesday rejected the
bail application of Parth Vasavada who is alleged to have raped his fiancee, an airhostess working with a leading private airline in Ahmedabad.
The 21-year-old victim alleged that Vasavada got intimate with her after their engagement. He pictured objectionable videos of her on his mobile phone and used them to blackmail her.
Both were in a relationship for about two years until they got engaged with the consent of their respective families. The woman alleged that Vasavada made her consume a drink which was spiked and then raped her.
The court while rejecting the bail, observed that if Vasavada is released on bail it is obvious that it will not have a very good impression on society at large.
Moreover, the court further observed that looking into the seriousness of the offence, the possibility that the accused may run away or tamper with the evidence were high and therefore it was not right grant him bail. Hence, the court rejected his bail application.
However, the court granted bail to Vasavada's mother and released her on the bail bond of Rs10,000 on the condition that she should not, without permission of the court, leave the state and asked her to submit her passport to the court.
