Ahmedabad to host Vishwa Gujarati Samaj's fourth conference

Ahmedabad: Come January 2010 and Ahmedabad will host thousands of Non Resident Gujaratis (NRGs) as the Vishwa Gujarati Samaj is all set to host its 4th conference in the city.
Some 20,000 NRGs are expected to attend the conference. This is for the first time that Ahmedabad is playing host to the high profile conference.

The samaj's earlier three conferences were held at Mumbai, Surat and Baroda."The three-day Vishwa Gujarati Samaj Conference is scheduled to kick off from January 23," said general secretary of the organisation Dushyant Pandya.

He said that this time the conference will also strive to entertain, educate and inform rather than just provide a platform to meet up. It will also have interactive sessions and business meets.

"And if everything goes as per plan, the samaj also plans to invite prime minister Manmohan Singh for the inauguration ceremony apart from defence minister AK Antony. chief minister Narendra Modi will also be invited," said Pandya.

He said the highlight of the event will be a seminar on - Gujarat- Today and Tomorrow and Problems of Gujaratis in the World."There will also be an exhibition on the glory of Gujarat and shops displaying handicraft," said Pandya. As part of the entertainment two cultural programmes are also being planned.

He said that there will be a separate conference for the NRG businessmen who participate in the event. The samaj has also written a letter to all its office bearersto spread the word among NRGs to make the event a success.To make accurate arrangements they have started booking hotels and government guest houses. "The event is expected to cost Rs3 crore," said Pandya.
