After announcing the budget, AMC has gone one step further in its promise to provide 24 hrs water supply to the residents of new west zone.

A meeting of the Water Supply and Sewerage Committee was held on Friday at the AMC office to discuss the proposed plan to erect water tanks and pump houses in Jodhpur, Vejalpur and Thaltej areas.

According to Jatin Patel, chairman of the committee, the proposed work will finish within a year. “It will end the water problems of these areas, as we will provide water 24 hours X 365 days,” he said, after the meeting.

According to the proposed plan, the AMC will erect two large water tanks and pumping stations near Pramukh Residency and Shraddha School of Jodhpur ward, one water tank at Anandnagar crossing area of Vejalpur and one tank at Thaltej.

These tanks will be of different storage capacities. Both the tanks of Jodhpur will be around 40 lakh litres each whereas the tank at Vejalpur will be of 27 lakh litres, and the one at Thaltej will be of 64 lakh litres. These tanks will provide water to the surrounding areas with a dedicated pumping station, which will supply the water with full force.

Patel also said that water meters will also be installed to keep track of water usage. “Such a system will be the first of its kind in Gujarat, and will be an effective solution for the water shortages in these areas,” he said.
