Ahmedabad remembers Sardar Patel on his 135th birthday

Patel, also known as the Iron Man of India, was born in a village in Gujarat on Oct 31, 1875 and is credited for his major role in the country's freedom struggle.

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi paid a floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Patel's 135th birth anniversary along with other ministers of the state paid floral tribute to Sardar Patel's statue at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar. Patel, also known as the Iron Man of India, was born in a village in Gujarat on Oct 31, 1875 and is credited for his major role in the country's freedom struggle.

Modi added that Patel played a pivotal role at the time of Bardoli Satyagraha and was instrumental in resurrecting the nationwide freedom struggle.

The chief minister also said that Sardar Patel's grand statue will be built at the cost of Rs1000 crore.

Congress remembers Sardar Patel, Indira Gandhi
The state Pradesh Congress Committee paid tribute to former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi on her 26th death anniversary and also remembered Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary.
Comparing two of India's greatest leaders, Gujarat state president, Siddharth Patel said that Sardar Patel was called the 'Iron Man of India' for his fearless approach, while Indira Gandhi, India's only female prime minister, had the ability to take bold decisions.

Patel said that the Gujarat State Congress committee was set up only after Sardar Patel amended the Congress' constitution in 1920. Sardar Patel, who was the committee's first president, served for 25 years.

Criticising Narendra Modi, Patel said that the Gujarat chief minister tried to garner votes by marketing Sardar Patel with the announcement of building Sardar Patel's 182-metre long statue, just couple of days before the civic polls.

Charity works by Jain Women’s Organisation
The Jain International Women's Organisation (JIWO) organized a blood donation drive, a free body check-up programme and also collected old clothes to distribute among the underprivileged section of the society on Sunday.

Those who turned up were checked by a team of physicians, gynaecologists, surgeons, orthopaedics, paediatricians, ophthalmologists, and gynaecologists.

"Our main objective is welfare through service. We have started this service in the areas where medical facilities are not easily available," said JIWO President, Sneha Deora.

AMA organises seminar on World Stroke Day
The Ahmedabad Stroke Awareness and Rehabilitation Association (AMA) organized a seminar in the city to celebrate 'World Stroke Day.'

The participants were told that getting an early treatment is vital to minimise damage and disability. The seminar stressed that the occurrence of stroke is common and widespread, but the stroke can be prevented and the survivors can recover and regain
their quality of life with care and support.

Director of Neurosciences at Sterling Hospital, Dr Sudhir Shah credited AMA for spreading awareness regarding stroke and setting up seminars to educate people.
