Gifts have already started pouring in for Amadavad as the city gears up to celebrate its 600th birthday.

On Wednesday, a website that will make available the city's history and a book on Sardar Patel was dedicated to the city by president of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan Maninagar (SSGSM) Acharya Purushottampriyadasji Maharaj. The inauguration took place at Bhadra in the presence of Ashok Bhatt, speaker of the Gujarat legislative assembly and Kanaji Thakor, mayor of Ahmedabad.

The website www.furdunji.com will feature the digital version of the book 'Gujaratnu Paatnagar Amadavad' written by Ratnamanirao Bhimrao Jote. It is considered to be one of the authentic works on city's history. The book that was dedicated to the city was the third research enriched edition of 'Sardar Patel Ek Sinhpurush'. The book by Rizwan Kadri tells about the visionary leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Kadri teaches history at Shree Swaminarayan Arts College. SSGSM has financed the publication of the book.

Speaking on the occasion, the Acharya said Ahmedabad is making tremendous progress but to sustain it love and unity among its citizens is a must.

Bhatt, who is also known for his deep interest in the city's heritage, talked about Lord Swaminarayan and his connection with the city.
"This is the same Bhadra fort where the Muslim ruler conspired to kill Lord Swaminarayan some 200 years ago. He invited him to the fort but the divine lord unearthed the conspiracy," said Bhatt.

"Kankariya was another place where the Lord organised 'Shaher Chourashi' (a feast for the whole city) although he had just Rs39.50 with him. But the city's businessmen and philanthropist managed to put together the feast in just 24 hours," said Bhatt.

He said the citizens needed to work together to make Ahmedabad a prominent and prosperous city. Thakor, meanwhile, congratulated Kadri and the team of experts involved in digitisation of the rare books written in Gujarati.
