To spread further awareness about asthma, Sterling Hospital organised a free asthma camp on Tuesday.
A team of about six doctors has been dedicated for the task. Many such awareness camps are likely to come up in the city as it gears up to celebrate World Asthma Day on May 4.
Dr. Tushar Patel, who briefed the media about the asthma camp at Sterling, said, "In the recent years due to urbanisation and air-pollution the incidence of asthma has increased. The number of asthma cases is expected to touch 100 million as urbanisation is expected to increase from 45 % to 59 % by 2025."
"Rapid industrialisation and urbanisation are the prime reasons for increase in number of asthma cases. Lack of awareness also worsens the situation. We plan to educate people that timely diagnosis of asthma can help one cope with the disease."
