From rescuing a man buried under landslide to dousing fire at a factory, Wednesday was a busy day for firemen with Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES). Firemen and volunteers were on their toes to attend rescue and fire calls from various parts of the city.
At 10.40pm on Tuesday, they rushed to Fun Republic mall to douse flames due to a short circuit in Screen 3 on fourth floor of its closed multiplex, which they said could be controlled immediately.
On Wednesday morning, firemen rushed to Pethilon bungalow, a construction site in Bopal to save a labourer, who was buried under a pile of mud, resulting from a landslide during construction of a wall. They rescued one Mahesh, 35, and moved him to a hospital. Soon after, a fire broke out at Ambika Steel furniture shop in Punit estate of Odhav at 11.15 am, which required 11 fire-fighting vehicles three hours to douse the inferno. Fire gutted almost everything on the premises. According to AFES, furniture worth Rs30 lakh was destroyed in the fire.
At 1.30pm, officials rushed to Prabhudas mill in Rakhial with four fire-fighters to control a fire and also rescue an employee of the mill, who was stuck on the roof.
