Ahmedabad expected to get scattered rainfall even in October

If the rain forecast by Anand Agriculture University's (AAU) annual rainfall panchang -2011 is to be believed, rains will continue in October.

Rains for three consecutive days have increased Amdavadis' civic woes without any doubt. In this situation, the news of extended monsoon may not enthuse the Amdavadis as expected. 

If the rain forecast by Anand Agriculture University's (AAU) annual rainfall panchang -2011 is to be believed, rains will continue in October as there are chances of 6 mm -74 mm rainfall in 10 days.

It has also forecast excess rains in Gujarat. As per the analysis, central Gujarat would receive around 13% excess rainfall; Saurashtra would get 42.8%; south Gujarat 24% and north Gujarat 15%. On an average, the state would get 24% excess rainfall.

The calendar also says Ahmedabad may get 279 mm rainfall in August and 162 mm in September. According to the panchang, in August the city will get between 1 mm and 5 mm rainfall for seven days, 6 mm-24 mm for 17 days and 25 mm-74 mm for the rest of the days.

Similarly, in September, the forecast says 11 days will see rainfall between 1 mm to 5 mm, there will be more than 75 mm on seven days and very heavy rain on two days in the month.

The calendar has forecast 304 mm rainfall for Anand district, 292 mm for Kheda, 298 mm for Vadodara, 548 mm in Surat, 370 mm for Rajkot and 354 mm for Gandhinagar in August. South Gujarat region, as per the panchang, would receive heavy rainfall.

Head of the department of agricultural meteorology Prof Vyas Pandey told DNA that the state was divided into four zones -north, south and central Gujarat and Saurashtra for making the calendar. 

AAU's predictions are made after extensively studying the position of 27 nakshatras and nine grahs on a particular day apart from studying conditions scientifically.
