Bomb squad, dog squad, Quick Response Team (ART), Police Control Room (PCR) vans, moving surveillance cameras, Chetak commandos and other such measures were part of the Ganpati immersion programmes in the city on Sunday.

Unwilling to take a chance, city police commissioner, Sudhir Sinha asked every cop of the police department to take steps to ensure a peaceful Ganapati immersion.

Talking to DNA, Sinha said that for the first time city cops have introduced moving surveillance cameras on vehicles to keep a tab on suspicious activities. "We have 10 vehicles with moving CCTV cameras. Seven watch towers with CCTV cameras have also been specially erected for vigilance," Sinha said. Along with this, the QRT, fully equipped PCR vans and as many as 125 additional police officials from the SRP and Chetak commandos will fortify the city on Sunday.

The police did a close security analysis of places where the immersion will take place in Sabarmati. Sinha said bomb squad teams have visited all such spots to analyse and check whether any unidentified objects were kept there.

Meanwhile, the leave of all police officials have been cancelled except for those who are in an emergency situation, to ensure proper security. Sources said that even deputy superintendent of police have been asked to cancel their leaves and rep3ort to job.
