Ahmedabad cops have drawn a detailed plan to prevent bomb blasts like the one near Delhi high court on Thursday. The plan, however, doesn't cover the more vulnerable targets like lower courts.

According to Sudhir Sinha, Commissioner of Police, more SRP personnel will be deployed inside the high court complex on SG Highway. But he made it clear that manpower crunch will not allow any permanent deployment inside the lower courts.

In the announcement made on Thursday, 36 new checking points will be built inside the high court in the coming days. From 10am to 6 pm, armed SRP personnel will man the points. From 6pm to 10am, 17 points will remain active to guard the premises. "Apart from SRP, we have also asked traffic cops to remain present for extra security," said Sinha.

The announcement comes in the wake of bomb blast outside Gate No. 4 of Delhi high court and a hoax call threatening to blow away the metropolitan court at Gheekanta on Wednesday.
Sinha, however, didn't provide any permanent solution for the security of the city's lower courts, i.e. metropolitan court, sessions court at Mirzapur and Bhadra. According to him, there are 4,000 vacant posts in the police department and this is hindering permanent deployment of policemen at these courts.

"SRP camps are already there inside these buildings premises. But it may not be possible to deploy more men due to manpower shortage," he added. According to him, 4,000 out of the total 13,000 posts are still vacant. These posts have been lying empty for the last 20 years. "According to union government norms, there must be 1 policeman for every 222 citizens. In that case, we should have 30,000 policemen," added Sinha.

On Tuesday, the registrar of the metropolitan court at Gheekanta received a letter threatening to blow up the court premises on Wednesday morning. The bomb squad conducted a massive search operation on Tuesday night but found nothing.

On Thursday, the squad discovered an unclaimed bag from the court premises. The bag belonged to an advocate.
