BJP workers along with residents of Ahmedabad performed prayers seeking Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's swift recovery, at several religious places across the city on Friday. The chief minister tested positive for the swine flu virus on Friday.
BJP workers performed a Maha Aarti at the ancient Bhadrakali temple in the city, while members of the party's minority cell performed a special namaaz for the chief minister's health. Members of the Sikh community organised prayers at the gurudwara in Saraspur, with a large number of BJP workers and well-wishers joining in the prayers. In addition to Ahmedabad, prayers were held in Kheda, Nadiad, Rajkot, Surat and Vadodara.
Meanwhile, a wave of worry has spread among BJP workers as two senior leaders of the party have undergone medical treatment in recent times. Earlier, state BJP president Purshottam Rupala suffered cardiac arrest and an angioplasty was performed on him at SAL Hospital in Ahmedabad. Even as he was discharged from the hospital on Thursday, the party workers got the news that Modi had contracted swine flu.
"We performed a Maha Aarti at the Bhadrakali temple to pray for the speedy recovery of the chief minister and for his long life," said Girish Chaudhry, city general secretary of the BJP. "More than 1,000 BJP workers and residents of Ahmedabad joined us. This is a matter of concern for us as two of our leaders' health has deteriorated recently," he said.
IK Jadeja, spokesperson of the BJP, said, "State BJP president Purshottam Rupala and other leaders have asked about Modi's status and have prayed for his better health."
Governor SC Zameer; leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, LK Advani; RSS president Mohan Bhagwat; and state cabinet ministers have also conveyed their wishes to the chief minister.
