Manjula Oad, who survived cervical disease gives away cash received at daughter’s marriage to help other patients.
Manjula Oad, a cancer survivor, has decided to give back to the hospital which helped her to recover from the terminal disease --- in a big way. In 2004, Manjulaben, a resident of Mangalpark of Amraiwadi, was diagnosed with cervical cancer.
After receiving basic treatment at a private hospital in the city, she was moved to the cancer hospital, located inside the civil hospital. After a year-long treatment, she was declared out of danger. After she recovered fully, she decided to do something for the hospital, so that it could continue giving life to other cancer patients.
Manjulaben and her husband Jasubhai have decided to donate all the money they receive as marriage gift of their daughter to the hospital. They arranged their daughter's marriage for 26 March, today. To make people aware about the noble cause, they wrote on the invitation card that the money will be donated to the cancer hospital. After knowing about this, most of the invitees have donated handsome amounts as marriage gifts to Manjulaben's daughter. Jasubhai, who is a businessman, also announced that in addition to the gift money received, he will donate Rs 2 lakh to the hospital.
Manjulaben's daughter Manisha is getting married with Rakesh, who lives in Ankleshwar. The marriage was attended by Suresh Shah, admin officer of cancer hospital, along with other doctors. Till late evening, guests had already donated Rs1.5 lakh. "This is my duty -- to give back to society. I am sure that this donation will help some other needy patient," said Jasubhai. Social activist Harshad Patel has played a crucial role in this initiative by the Oad family.
