Vastrapur police raided the houses of three major bookies of Visnagar and recovered 52 mobiles used for taking bets on cricket matches on Wednesday. However, the trio managed to escape as they came to know about the raid in advance.

Two weeks back, acting on a tip off, cops had nabbed Hardik Patel and Ramkumar Gupta red-handed while accepting bets for the South Africa-New Zealand T20 match. Police officials said that the bets were taken in their Swift car so that no one could doubt them while they moved around.

Following their arrest, cops searched their houses and recovered a few mobile phones. After browsing through their contacts on the phone, police found the names of three prominent bookies of Visnagar-Kiran Patel, Sanjay Patel and Sachin Patel. According to police, the trio has a network spread across the state.
The cops acquired their addresses from the mobile operator and raided their homes in Visnagar on Wednesday. But they were unable to nab the trio as they had fled before the arrival of police. While searching Kiran Patel's house, police found 52 mobile phones. Patel's father confirmed that his son is a bookie and is currently preparing for the IPL season. Cops are now extracting details from the seized mobile phones to nab other bookies.
