The woes of acquiring airport entry pass is going to be a thing of past now. The Bureau of Civil Aviation (BCAS), an aviation security regulator, is set to start its operations in this regard for the first time at the city's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport from Thursday.

The operation will reduce the time to acquire and renew airport entry passes which currently is a tedious exercise. Officials said the new arrangement will be a great respite for the airlines and all the agencies working at the airport. "BCAS is the designated authority which facilitates the process of getting entry passes. Currently it operates from Mumbai airport. Anyone seeking pass has to send it to Mumbai and this process consumes a lot of time. Now, since BCAS officials will be available at the city airport, the process will now be quicker," said an official.

Further, it will help all the protocol duty officers to obtain the pass easily. With this system in place the role of airport director and security manager in providing passes will also be reduced. The office for BCAS officials has already been completed on

Wednesday at the ground floor of terminal four and the operation will begin from Thursday. However, according to AK Chaturvedi, regional dy commissioner, BCAS, the facilitation of the process of getting the airport entry passes is just one aspect of its duty while there are other things that the agency has to take care of. "We are a regulatory body and our job is to check everything happening here.”
