Security agencies are all geared up to thwart any untoward incident occurring in the wake of terror threats targeting the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) on Wednesday. Security agencies have streamlined their work force and cancelled weekly offs of officials.

"We have beefed up our presence at the airport and surrounding areas. Regions like Kubernagar, where the airport boundary wall is adjacent to residential area, will see increased and intensified patrolling. Our watchdogs are also prowling all around the complex to keep miscreants at bay," said Shishir Gupta, commandant, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

In fact, the CISF has cancelled the weekly offs of their personnel in order to tighten security. The anonymous letter, found at the prime minister's office in New Delhi, has reportedly revealed threats of terror strikes at the city airport on May 25.

The presence of the local police has also been enhanced at the airport's outer areas. The police are said to be keeping an eye on vehicular movements at and around the airport.

Talking to DNA, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 4, Amit Vishwakarma, said that special deployment has been made in and near the Ahmedabad airport. He said that Quick Response teams as well as bomb disposal squads have been deployed at the airport as a precautionary measure. Apart from this, the basic vigilance at the airport is been conducted strictly.

Apart from the airport, additional police forces have also been deployed at the Civil Hospital. "We have deployed many cops at the hospital," Vishwakarma added.
