New Delhi: Even as the BJP grapples to find a way out of the intra-party squabbles which are threatening the very existence of the party in Karnataka, the saffron outfit got another shock following the failure of its seat-sharing talks with allyJD-U in Jharkhand.
The two NDA partners will now go it alone in the Jharkhand assembly elections. "Our seat-sharing talks with the BJP have broken down. We have been talking to them for the past three days for allocation of 18 seats as was the case last time. But nothing has happened," JD-U president Sharad Yadav said.
Caught off-guard by the development, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said he was "hurt and surprised". Naqvi was overseeing the seat-sharing arrangement from the BJP's side.
Meanwhile, renewed efforts began on Wednesday night to resolve the Karnataka crisis with the arrival of state chief minister BS Yeddyurappa late evening. Amid reports that a solution acceptable to the rival factions was being worked out, he met some senior BJP leaders in what was being perceived to be a precursor to a possible meeting with his rivals on Thursday.
There is a strong likelihood thatthe "Billary brothers" G Janardhan Reddy and G Karunakaran, both ministers in the Yeddyurappa government who have raised a banner of revolt against the CM, would come face to face with the chief minister to thrash out the issue.
