A young mentally unstable Afghan national, who had arrived in Delhi three days ago, was injured on Thursday when he allegedly jumped off from the second floor of a shopping mall.

Police suspect it to be a case of attempted suicide.

Mohammed Arif, 28, hailing from Herat in Afghanistan, allegedly pushed a security guard to get inside a shopping mall in Lajpat Nagar and jumped off the second floor.

He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he is undergoing treatment.

Police said that the Afghan national appeared "mentally unwell".

His landlord told police that he looks mentally unstable.

Arif was living in Vinobapuri where he had rented a house three days ago after arriving in the capital with his sister. His sister has already left India.

Police have informed his family.
