Amritha Roy, 25, a young guest services officer of Air Asia, died after her limbs were crushed by an aerobridge at the Rajiv Gandhi international airport in Shamshabad, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, on Sunday.

The accident occurred soon after she had taken count of the passengers boarding a Kuala Lumpur flight at about 9.30am.
As the aerobridge was being retracted, her right hand and leg got trapped in it. Both limbs were crushed immediately and she fainted.

Other employees on the bridge immediately stopped it from folding back and took Roy to the medical centre on the ground floor of the airport. But doctors declared her dead at about 10.40am.

Hospital sources said the accident may have caused a fracture or a more serious injury needing amputation of the limbs, but could not have killed Roy. They believe she died of a neurosurgical shock. Roy, a native of Kolkata, was reportedly staying alone in Hyderabad.

She is believed to be the only child of her parents.
The airport management has instituted an investigation into the incident by appointing a committee comprising the chief operating officer of the Delhi airport and the chief security officer of the Hyderabad airport.
