A 25-year-old girl and her sister were attacked by a stalker, who threw acid on their faces in Zamia Nagar area of south-west district, police said today.

Police said Afroz threw acid on Javeria (25) and her sister Samar (24) last night near their home in Zamia Nagar. They said Afroz had proposed to Javeria some time back but she had rejected him. The accused has been arrested.

The duo live in Zakir Nagar area and run a beauty parlour in Gaffar Temple area.

"Last night around 7 pm, they were returning home after closing their parlour on a rickshaw when they were attacked.

Afroz was standing nearby carrying a jug full of acid. He hurled it on them," a senior police officer said, adding that Afroz managed to escape from the area.

He was, however, arrested later, police said.

Javeria and Samar both were taken to a private hospital and were later shifted to a government hospital.

Police said Javeria had told them that Afroz was stalking her for the past one month.

"A day before Eid, he had proposed her for marriage but she refused. Afroz then had threatened her with dire consequences and used to stalk her on way everyday," police said.

The condition of the victims are stable, they added.
