The name of former IPS officer AI Saiyad's son Asif has cropped up in the recent Rs14 crore Ponzi scam which surfaced in the city on Friday.
The name of former IPS officer AI Saiyad's son Asif has cropped up in the recent Rs14 crore Ponzi scam which surfaced in the city on Friday. Asif's named came up in a letter written by Abdul Rahim Desai, the main accused in the Ponzi scam.
Desai, who has been missing for the past several days, in a letter addressed to the DIG, police bhavan, chief minister and several media houses, said that it was Asif who had introduced him to absconding Ponzi scamster, Abhay Gandhi.
The letter was left behind by Desai after he went missing and was sent by his wife Mumtaz. It is believed that Desai was an agent for Gandhi and used to collect money under the ageis of Desai Traders and Investment Plan to invest in Gandhi's schemes.
In the letter Desai claimed that Asif introduced him to Gandhi. The contents of the letter suggest as if Asif himself had invested with Desai.
It should be noted that Asif's name does not figure in the official complaint filed with Sarkhej police. Desai’s letter also accuses Asif of forcibly making him give up ownership of his bungalow and a plot of land in Juhapura.
Desai has also accused Asif of forcibly snatching an imported bike worth Rs18 lakh.
He has also accused IPS officer and BJP man Saiyad of using his influence to harass him. Desai said Asif took the bungalow and plot of land from him for the Rs2.5 crore that the latter had allegedly given him. Desai also owes Rs1 crore to Raja Saiyad, son of Nizam Saiyad — a police constable posted in Detection of Crime Branch.
Meanwhile, BR Patel, investigating officer told DNA that Asif's name has not been mentioned but things will be clear only after Desai is nabbed.
