Abdul Nasser Madani taken to hospital for check-up

PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore blasts case, was today taken to a hospital for check-up from the central jail, where he is lodged after being remanded in judicial custody.

Madani underwent tests at the government-run Jayadevegowda Institute of Cardiology and his ECO and ECG levels were found to be normal.

BC Shrinivas, the cardiologist who attended on him, said that Madani has been referred to a multi-speciality hospital for further investigation.

The PDP leader, who was arrested on August 17 at Kollam in Kerala by Karnataka police, had told the court yesterday that the medical facilities provided to him were "not proper and insufficient", considering his ailments.

Madani's counsel Usman had told the court that the doctors attending on Madani were "not qualified enough to attend to the kind of medical problems he had" and had sought the services of a cardiologist from the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and an orthopaedician.

The court had directed the jail authorities to provide medical facilities as desired by Madani in view of his ailments.

Madani was remanded in judicial custody till September 7 by a magistrate court yesterday after police did not seek extension of his custody.

He was in police custody since his arrest on August 17.
