In a tragic sequel to the kidnap and murder of 10-year-old Vaishnavi, her father died of a heart stroke here on Tuesday.
Palagani Prabhakar, a liquor baron in Vijayawada, had collapsed on Monday night after police told him that his kidnapped daughter had been found murdered in a car garage on the outskirts of Guntur.

Vaishnavi, a class IV student, was abducted while she was on her way to school. Unidentified motorcyclists stopped the car in which she was travelling along with her brother Sai Teja, 12, on Saturday. The motorcyclists then killed driver Lakshman Rao and kidnapped Vaishnavi. Sai Teja managed to escape.

Vijayawada Police, who were on a manhunt since Saturday, found her charred body on Monday night. The assailants had dumped it in a furnace in the garage. Pieces of Vaishnavi’s clothes helped police identify her.

According to police, the kidnap was a fallout of a family feud.
Venkat Rao, brother of Prabhakar’s first wife, kidnapped Vaishnavi to scare him and warn him against transferring property in Vaishnavi’s name, ignoring his sister’s son, a source said.

Vaishnavi was killed within an hour of the kidnap. The kidnappers acted on Rao’s suggestion and took her body to the garage and threw it into the furnace.

Prabhakar was a well-connected businessman in Vijayawada and had close contacts with politicians of various parties.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, PRP’s Chiranjeevi and a number of Congress leaders visited Vijayawada to pay tribute to him and Vaishnavi.
