The city, which looked somewhat calm till Monday, plunged into a sordid mood on Tuesday. Medical stores were flooded with enquiries for N-95 masks and other varieties.

Medical store owner Mukesh Shah said, "We have been receiving enquiries about masks from many customers. Most of them are enquiring about N-95 mask." Aarya's death became the talk of the town. People could be seen discussing the symptoms and causes of the deadly flu. Tea-stall owners were also among those who looked highly concerned. Some even arranged for plastic cups to serve tea to their customers.

People could be seen riding their vehicles wearing masks or wrapping handkerchiefs on their faces.  An obvious fallout was the absence of people in crowded places.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old woman who had gone to Thailand for a trip on May 1, 2009 was admitted to SSG hospital following headache, fever and cold late on Tuesday.  She reached SSG hospital directly from the railway station.
