With resources fast depleting due to rapidly rising population, some of the foreseeable problems in the years to come will be the shortage of raw material leading to high capital cost.

An effective supply change management can reduce the ramifications to a great extent and in this context, Indus Institute and Electrotherm group organized a two-day workshop on supply chain management (SCM) on Friday and Saturday under Stephan Willigens from
Germany.

Wiligens, principal and head of Supply Chain Practice at the world’s leading CMS consultant BrainNet Group, emphasised the importance of aligning the supply chain setup with the vision and strategy of an organisation and orienting it to the customer requirements and expectations.

Wiligens also bust some of the common myths associated with SCM. “It is wrong to believe that SCM is industry specific and a good service is expensive. The industrialists need to understand the parameters of predictability and unpredictability,” he said during his presentation.

He added that companies need to keep a tab on changing environment. “Companies need to identify order changes, product variations, inventory turnover and product life cycle to achieve a perfect synchronisation between all players and units” the head of Supply Chain Practice said.

He also looked into the megatrends and their effect on the supply chain setup.
The Indus Institute, SMI and BrainNet are currently reviewing the possibility of further cooperation in this area.
