BJP star campaigner Uma Bharti has started a fresh controversy launching a personal attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister and saying there is a split in the Nehru-Gandhi family as Priyanka and her husband Robert Vadra were not talking in same tone over Vadra’s future in politics.

“While Robert talks about his intention to join politics, Priyanka says he is not doing so. Husband and wife are talking in different tones. The poor political condition of the family shows a split in it,” Bharti said.

She also said Priyanka is out on roads with her two children begging for votes. Her comments came a day after Priyanka’s two children - Rehan and Miraya - were seen at public rallies in Rae Bareli.

“Rahul calls us beggar because he doesn’t understand the difference between beggars and labourers. Labourers work hard to earn money. Begging is what Priyanka is doing with her two children,” said Bharati.

“Is this the same Priyanka who went to court seeking privacy for her children and demanding that photos of her children should not be made public or printed in newspaper? Today she is standing on roads with her children and begging for votes. This shows the poor political condition of the Gandhi family and desperation to get votes that Priyanka has even put her children in the forefront,” Bharti said.

Bharti’s statement was targeted at Rahul who had said that people from UP beg in other states for want of jobs. Moreover, after watching Priyanka’s children in political rallies, Bharti got a chance to retaliate to Rahul’s statement that she was an outsider in UP elections. Bharti is contesting from Charkhari assembly seat in Bundelkhand.

On Rahul’s having food at Dalit homes, Bharti said the real difference will be when Dalits eat in Rahul’s house. She said, “Rahul thinks he is Ram and the poor Dalits are Shabri. While he sits on floor and eats in their homes to show off, when will the day come when these poor Dalits will eat in his house sitting on sofas?”

Admitting that UP election has become a personal battle between political leaders, Bharti said it all started with Rahul’s comments. “I didn’t start this. I wanted the issues to be good governance vs bad governance. Rahul started this but I want it to end,” she added.
