96 dams put on high alert in Gujarat

According to data available with revenue relief control room, Gujarat has so far received more than 80 % of average rainfall.

Till September 2, 137 deaths were reported in the state in rain-related incidents and 110 of them have been covered under the relief criteria.

Data from state water resources and revenue departments suggest that there has been increase in the water level in the dams across the state. Total storage in all the dams in the state, including Sardar Sarovar on Narmada Dam, was registered at 84.64 % of the capacity.

The Narmada Dam has also received 100% water of its present capacity and is overflowing. Water level of the dam is reported to be 124.75 metres.

According to data by state water resources department, 68 small and medium size dames located in Kheda, Panchmahals, Dahod, Navasari, Surat, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Amreli, Tapi, Kutch, Sabarkantha, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Junagadh districts are 100% filled. Additionally, 28 more dams in these districts and Mehsana as well as Bharuch, have received over than 90% of their total water storing capacity.

All these dams have been put on high alert.  There are 17 major dams in the state out of them Machhu -1, Machhu-2 and Bhadar in Rajkot district and Brahmani dam in Suredranagar district have been completely filled up.

On the other hand, Shetrunji in Bhavnagar district, Kadana in Dahod, Dharoi in Mehsana and Panam in Dahod have received 98.35%, 96.47%, 91.03% and 95.76% water of their total capacity.

On Monday, the maximum rainfall in the state, 214 mm, was recorded in Kalyanpura area in Jamnagar district.
