79 party plots sealed for ‘inadequate parking’ in hmedabad

People in Ahmedabad may find it tough getting a venue for weddings this monsoon as the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has started sealing party plots that do not have enough space for parking.

On Friday — the first day of the AMC’s drive to seal such plots - officials of the civic body sealed around 79 party plots located in all the six zones of the city.

The plots that were sealed on Friday include some well known places such as Keshva Bagh, Shakambha party plot (in West Zone), KK Nagar party plot, Krishna Farm (in New West Zone), and Shakriba party plot and Mangaldep party plot (in South Zone). In West Zone, 32 party plots were sealed, the highest among zones, while only four plots were sealed in Central Zone. The AMC sealed 10 party plots in North Zone, 13 in South Zone and 10 each in East and New West zones.

There are around 177 party plots in the city and none of them has enough parking space. The AMC had issued a notice asking them to spare 50% of the plot area for parking and get clearance for their plan from the civic body. The AMC has set Sunday as the deadline for sealing all the 177 party plots in the city.

The AMC’s action has stirred up a hornet’s nest and there are insinuations that the owners of the party plots are being victimized because they do not have a lobby in the civic body.

Deputy municipal commissioner, UC Padia, said that sealing of party plots in the city was the first step of a bigger drive by the AMC.

“The civic body will also talk action against illegal constructions, and other flawed structures,” he said. “This is just the beginning of the drive to create more space for parking in city.”
