Once the Sabarmati Riverfront project is finished, a drive by Dudheshwar along the Sabarmati river will force many to crane their necks.

No, they will not be trying to relieve a crick in their necks, but to take a good look at the 60-storey building that will come up on the reclaimed land near Dudheshwar on the east bank of Sabarmati.

This will be the tallest building in the state. Skyscrapers are one of the delights promised by the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) on the river bank. There will be only one exceptionally tall building (60-storeyed) while rest will be high rises.

A senior SRFDCL official told DNA that the space for the state's tallest building will be auctioned to house a corporate office.

"The tallest building is very much in the plan. It will be send to the state government for approval as we are ready with the final land use plan," said the official.

The official said they have taken into consideration the safety measures that need to be addressed while constructing such a building in the earthquake prone zone.

"Also, such tall buildings have separate fire fighting systems to deal with casualties," said the official. The SRFDCL is also planning to put 30 hectare of land for commercial use for auction by the beginning of next year once the civil work on the project is completed.

The SRFDCL is also planning to go for foot print auction to sell off the land for commercial purpose and generate around Rs1200 crore to meet the project cost.
