6 killed in MP building collapse

The district administration has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs5,000 each to next of kin of the deceased and Rs2,000 each for the injured.

Six persons, including women, were killed and 16 others injured when an old, three-storey house collapsed here, officials said today.

The building at Ishwarpura locality, owned by one Om Prakash Kachchwa, was in a dilapidated condition and caved in after midnight last night, they said. The house owner also died in the collapse.

The district administration has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs5,000 each to next of kin of the deceased and Rs2,000 each for the injured.

Five of the injured, who are in serious condition, were referred to a Jabalpur hospital for treatment, the officials said.

Besides Kachchwa, other deceased were identified as Kalpana Raikwar, Rani, Lali, Sanjay and Ajay, they said.

Ram Krishna Kusumariy, the Minister in-charge of Katni district, visited the spot.
