The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has served notices to 50 more under-construction buildings in various wards in the central zone. Another 50 buildings are likely to get similar notices from the civic body.

A survey carried out by the AMC after the recent building collapse in Suadagar Ni Pol, has revealed that only 12 of the 177 under-construction buildings in the zone are legal.

The notices came after the survey was done. The AMC's estate and town development department had sprung into action after the tragic incident in Kalupur which killed five people on January 28.
A survey was soon carried out by the civic body to find out about illegal constructions.

Of the total 165 illegally constructed buildings in various wards of the central zone, the civic body has issued notices to only 65 buildings so far. However, the department of the central zone has now issued notices to another 50 such illegal constructions in the central zone.

It is learned that there are around 50 more buildings in this zone that will be served notice by the department in the near future.
The work of issuing notices is going on at a slow pace as the department does not have sufficient man power. The central zone is short of four inspectors and an assistant town development officer.

The officials are also entrusted with the responsibility of census and jantri work. Therefore, the city engineers and assistant city engineers have been given the power
to issue notices to illegal constructions.
