40 lakh illiterate women now literate in Bihar

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today said that 40 lakh illiterate women were made literate under the 'Mukhyamantri Akshar Anchal Yojana' by two lakh teachers across the state.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today said that 40 lakh illiterate women were made literate under the 'Mukhyamantri Akshar Anchal Yojana' by two lakh teachers across the state.

While addressing a government function here on the occasion of Teachers' Day, Kumar said these two lakh teachers would be given Rs1000 and citation letter for their services.

He also announced that the government wold provide Rs250 annually to all the students between three and six years going to anganwadi schools and Rs500 to students from class three to class five for purchase of uniform.

Teachers of the university and colleges would also be honoured along with those of schools on Teachers' Day from next year, Kumar said.

Kumar said he had been working for the development of the state ever since he took over the reins of the state in November 2005 but the opposition leaders do not see any development.

He said that while 25 lakh children had been out of school before NDA came to power in 2005, the figure has now come down to 7.70 lakh.

Kumar announced that the B Ed course would be introduced in all the constituent colleges and honoured three teachers of the state.
