Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVP-NPA) here is preparing 3D (three-dimensional) models of all important buildings in the country, for the purpose of anti-terrorism operations.

Using these 3D models, it is also giving specialised training to officers and commandos for a counter-attack, in a scenario where any of these buildings come under siege.

"The idea is that if you know about the interiors of any location (building) which is under threat, the officers can be given a 3D briefing before launching the counter-attack. We have learned from the 26\11 Taj Hotel attack and tried to put in a system of briefing officers and commandos in a 3D format before getting into action," SVP-NPA Director Rajiv Mathur said.

The SVP-NPA would build a digital library with the 3D images as well as photographs and maps of important installations, including its own campus at Shivrampally here, the Director told journalists.

"We are trying to create a 3D atmosphere and put the officers through simulation tests as part of the tactical training. While we have acquired some latest weapons, we are also acquiring a series of other weapons for providing comprehensive training under the 'Special Tactics Wing'. So far, training in special weapons has been imparted to 709 police officers besides 200 personnel from BSF and CRPF," Mathur said.

An additional 400 acres of land was being acquired at Ibrahimpatnam on the outskirts of Hyderabad for imparting "aggressive and defencive" training in special tactics, he added.
