Following the failed negotiation with the government, 3600 jawans of Gujarat Industrial Security Force (GISF) went on an indefinite strike from Tuesday evening. Around 2500 jawans had walked down to Gandhinagar from Ahmedabad, demanding inclusion in the pay hike under the sixth pay commission.

After an unsuccessful talk with the home secretary, MD Antani, the representatives of GISF employees union and Gujarat Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) announced their indefinite strike from Tuesday evening at 6:30. The representatives said that they will continue with the strike until the government includes the employees in the pay hike.

"The GISF delegation had come to meet me. We are willing to talk to them if their demands are within what they are legally entitled to. They cannot expect us to fulfill any unjustified demands," said Antani who also happens to be the chairman of GISF.

On the other hand, Amrish Patel, GFTU secretary, claimed that Antani told the representatives to wait for 60 days to consider their demands. Antani had said that in order to grant interim relief to the employees, he would have to meet the board of GISF.

"However, when we held a meeting with the jawans and decided to seek a clarification from Antani about the specific moves that he would take to resolve the issue, he refused to meet us. Despite repeated attempts he didn't meet or respond to our phone calls," Patel added.
