33 killed, 35 injured as train rams into a bus in Uttar Pradesh

At least 33 people were killed and 35 injured when a train rammed into a bus at an unmanned crossing in Etah in Uttar Pradesh in the wee hours today.

The accident occurred at Kanshiramnagar at around 2 am today when the train was on its way from Mathura to Chapra in Bihar, railway sources said,

Thirty-three people were killed and 35 injured in the mishap.

The ill-fated bus was carrying a marriage party, they said.

Prime minister Manmohan Singh expressed extreme grief at the loss of life and  announced ex-gratia relief of Rs2 lakhs for the kin of each person killed, Rs50,000 each for seriously injured and Rs10,000 each for those with simple injuries.

He also ordered an inquiry by railway safety commissioner into the accident.

Singh who holds the portfolio of railways directed Railway Board chairman Vinay Mittal to proceed to the site of the accident.
