3,000 saplings to be planted in Jahanpanah forest

To restore the lost charm of Jahanpanah forest, 3,000 saplings will be planted in 450-acre area in south Delhi in the next one year.

The reforestation drive was launched by Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken today, who planted a neem sapling.

The forest has residential colonies like Greater Kailash-II, Sheikh Sarai-II, Chittaranjan Park, Alaknanda, Hamdard Nagar and Kalkaji around it. About 20,000 people visit the area daily.

Speaking on the occasion, Maken said 3,000 saplings of indigenous plants like neem, gulmohar, pipal, jaamun and amaltash will be planted during in the next one year.

The plantation exercise will be undertaken and supervised by the Horticulture Department of Delhi Development Authority.

Maken also directed the DDA to construct a non-concrete walkway along the boundary of the forest for the benefit of morning walkers and nature lovers. The proposed walkway would cover 12 km once completed.
