THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan today said the government would go ahead with the proposed Smart City IT park project at Kochi either with the Dubai based TECOM company, with which the goverment had signed a MoU, or with any other company.
Talking to reporters here after a cabinet meeting, he said talks with TECOM were on to sort out certain differences.
The financial position of TECOM was not sound and the company was insisting on certain conditions, which the government could not agree, he said.
The IT park was one of the ambitious IT initiative of the LDF government. But the project ran into trouble after dispute over the extend of free holding of land.
Though the foundation stone for the project was laid two years back, no construction work had been taken place after that for the project which was supposed to attract investments worth Rs 4,500 crores over a period of time.
He said 3000 home guards would appointed and their services would be utilised for relief work during natural calamities, to control traffic and also as security personnel in places of festivals.
It was also decided to increase the government guarantee amount from Rs400 crore to Rs600 crore on fixed deposits by Kerala Transport Development Financal Corporation, he said.
The cabinet also decided increase infrastructure in general hospital in Alappuzha and added the bed capacity from 174 to 400, he said.
