300 tourists among 400 stranded people rescued in J&K

Over 400 tourists and locals, trapped due to a landslide at Chang La Pass in Jammu and Kashmir's Leh district, were rescued on Sunday, officials said.

Over 400 tourists and locals, trapped due to a landslide at Chang La Pass in Jammu and Kashmir's Leh district, were rescued on Sunday, officials said.

"Over 100 vehicles got stranded at Durbuk near Chang La Pass yesterday due to a landslide...the civil administration, police and army had launched a joint rescue operation and created an alternate road for evacuating the trapped passengers," a senior police official told PTI over phone from Leh, 434 km from here.

"All the trapped people - over 300 tourists and around 100 locals - were evacuated to safety," he said.
