Heavy rains drenched many parts of North India killing three people, even as flood-like situation eased in parts of Punjab and Haryana with the authorities succeeding in plugging breaches in Sutlej and Yamuna rivers.
 
Two persons died as a portion of their house collapsed on them due to incessant rains in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad district.
 
Flood situation continued in several districts with major rivers like Ganga, Yamuna and Gomti flowing above danger mark at most places in the state.
 
One child was washed away in flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.
 
Meanwhile, flood-like situation in parts of Punjab and Haryana eased out with the authorities succeeding in plugging breaches in Yamuna and Sutlej rivers at Karnal, Sonepat, Ropar and Yamunanagar districts.
 
Also, the floodgates of the Bhakra dam were closed by the authorities in the wake of decrease in inflow of water into the reservoir.
 
However, many areas in Punjab's Kapurthala district continued to remain submerged under flood waters.
 
Monsoon remained active in Himachal Pradesh as intermittent rains lashed most parts of the hill state, dropping mercury sharply in tribal areas.
 
Paonta Sahib and Nahan recorded 222 mm and 102 mm of rains respectively, while it was 20 mm in Shimla.
 
Kalpa was the coldest with maximum 10.5 degree Celsius followed by Keylong at 11.9 deg C.
 
MeT department predicted isolated heavy rains at some places in the state tomorrow.
 
Monsoon showers returned to the national capital after a gap of 24 hours, slowing down evening traffic.
 
The city received 0.3 mm of rains during the day till 5.30pm. The maximum was recorded at 34.1 deg C and the humidity oscillated between 69 and 92%.
 
The Weatherman predicted rains and thunder showers in some places tomorrow.
 
Meanwhile, weather remained dry in Rajasthan in the absence of rains.
 
According to a MeT forecast, rains may occur at a few places in the state tomorrow.
