DB Realty chairman Shaid Balwa, Vinod Goenka of Swan telecom and three senior officials of Reliance ADAG shifted the blame for the 2G scam on former telecom minister A Raja while seeking bail in CBI special court on Wednesday.

Just before the hearing started, vice-president of ADAG Surendra Pipara, fainted outside the trial court and was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital amidst high drama. He was said to have suffered an asthma attack. The high court ordered the hospital authorities to give proper treatment to Pipara.

“Even if we take CBI’s allegations at face value, the role of Reliance officials in the so called massive scam was minimal,” former attorney general Soli J Sorabjee, appearing for Gautam Doshi, group managing director of Reliance ADAG told court. Sorabji said, “the only allegations against Reliance officials was that they structured a front company, Swan Telecom, with an intention to cheat the DoT by bypassing its guidelines on grant of licences. Structuring a company is not an offence.”

The arguments on plea entered fifth day on Wednesday and would continue on May 6.
