2G scam: CBI finds nothing suspicious in Sadiq Batcha's death

The CBI has found nothing suspicious in the death of Sadiq Batcha, who was a close aide of former telecom minister and second-generation mobile telephony spectrum allocation case accused A Raja.

"Nothing suspicious was found in the death of Batcha. The agency constructed the chain of events and found that the Chennai police probe into his death was right," CBI sources said.

Batcha, 38, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his home in Chennai on March 16 and his wife had claimed that he committed suicide as he was "unable to cope with the pressure" of the probe in the case.

The Chennai police probe had not found any foul play in the death of Batcha.

Batcha, who was managing director of Greenhouse Promoters, a firm under the scanner of the CBI as well as the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam, was said to have been found hanging from roof of the bedroom of his house in Vannia Teynampet in South Chennai.

The CBI had extensively questioned Batcha four times between December, 2010 and March, 2011 and suspected him to be a vital link in the money trail. His official and residential premises were also raided by the agency.

Batcha had left a suicide note in which he had stated that he was "embarrassed" by the raids of various enforcement agencies and the extensive media coverage of them.
