In a significant decision, the Haryana government has made it mandatory for all recognised private schools to reserve 25% seats for students of weaker sections in the state.

An official spokesman said here today that reservation would be made available to these students from the current academic session 2010-11.

The decision has been taken under Section 134-A of the Haryana School Education Rules, 2009.

The Right to Education Act mandates that private educational institutions have to reserve 25% of the seats for children from poor families without screening or test from 2011.

The recognised private schools had been asked to send compliance report to the education department, the spokesman said.

Priority would be accorded to talented students from the weaker sections and the same fee would be charged as that in government schools, he said.

Strict action would be taken against those found not complying with the order.
