200 huts gutted in fire near Chennai; two suffer burns

Two persons were injured and about 200 huts gutted in a major fire near Chennai today, police said.

About 13 fire tenders were used to douse the flames which enveloped the huts at Pulianthope around 1.30pm, they said.

Though the cause of the fire was not known immediately, preliminary investigation revealed it may be due to a short circuit.

The injured were taken to the nearby Corporation hospital, they added.

Tension prevailed in the area for sometime following the fire.
