A Delhi court today awarded rigorous life imprisonment to two persons for stabbing to death a man after robbing his valuables in New Delhi in 2004.

Additional sessions judge JR Aryan said though there was no eye-witness to the incident the chain of incidents and the
circumstantial evidence led to to the conclusion that it was the convicts who committed the offence.

The court, which absolved two co-accused for want of evidence, also imposed a fine of Rs6,000 each on convicts Ravinder and Arjun Singh Rawat for offences of murder and robbery.

The recovery of a robbed mobile handset and other belongings of victim Rajesh Kumar, 20, a resident of Kalkaji here, at the instance of one of the accused proved their complicity in the offence, it said.

The victim, working as a driver with a businessman, was stalked in Kalkaji area on the night of November 14, 2004 and was later stabbed to death as he resisted the robbery bid of the accused.

Public prosecutor Atul Srivastava, who examined 33 witnesses to prove the case, had sought death penalty for the convicts saying "the offence fell under the rarest category as the victim was killed for some money."
