2 more World Cup cricket betting rackets busted in Delhi

The Delhi police today smashed two rackets allegedly involved in betting during the India-South Africa World Cup cricket match and arrested five persons, including a teenager.

The Delhi police today smashed two rackets allegedly involved in betting during the India-South Africa World Cup cricket match and arrested five persons, including a teenager.

The arrested have been identified as Sunil Kumar, 32, Dinesh, 21, Sunny, 26, Suresh Kumar, 48, and Pawan Kukhreja, 19. Twenty three mobile phones, a TV, a laptop and an LCD were recovered from them.

The arrests came after the police received inputs about the operation of the rackets at two places - 1-Block and 6-Block in Subhash Nagar area.

"They confessed that they were running these rackets since 18.02.11.  Both the accused parties have taken the parallel line of betting from a bookie Rajan who is at large.

"Better stake depends on the ups and down of the match. After completion of the match, their employees go to their customers to collect the money and later this money is distributed accordingly," V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (west), said.

With these, Delhi police have smashed ten betting rackets in the national capital after the World Cup cricket began 21 ago.
