2 held in A'bad for selling fake mark sheets

Cops nabbed two Rajasthani residents involved in making and selling bogus mark sheets to students. Based on a tip-off, officials of Zone 1 squad set up a trap on Thursday morning and nabbed Kamlesh Rupramji, a resident of Dungarpur, and his accomplice Vasant Garg, a resident of Udaipur.   

Earlier, Paresh Soni, a social activist, had approached the officials and alerted them about a racket of bogus mark sheets being sold in Ahmedabad. He had informed them that an advertisement had been published in a local newspaper one week back to lure students who had failed in their exams. On investigation, cops learned that two men had planned to make money by selling bogus mark sheets in Ahmedabad.

“After coming to Ahmedabad on Thursday morning, the duo stayed in Sargam Palace hotel near Ellisbrdige, where they had arranged meetings with their prospective clients. We sent a fake client to confirm their identity and work and caught them red-handed,” said H M Dodiya, PSI of Zone 1 squad.    

Investigation revealed that the duo used to charge Rs5,000 to Rs10,000 as booking amount to issue the bogus mark sheet.

After taking the booking amount, the duo promised to deliver the mark sheet within 15 to 20 days. They charged up to Rs 1 lakh at the time delivery.

“They promised to give mark sheets of any course, be it SSC, HSC, BBA, B.Com, MBA, BE, etc. The money depended on the importance of degree and marks to be given in the bogus mark sheet. Higher the marks, higher the amount,” said Dodiya, who handed over the duo to Ellisbridge police.

Police also learned that they used to acquire the bogus mark sheets through a person known as Sharmaji in Madhya Pradesh.
