143 militants arrested in Arunachal Pradesh so far this year

The Arunachal Pradesh government today said 143 members of different militant outfits were arrested in the state since November last year and subsequently cases were registered against them.

The Arunachal Pradesh government today said 143 members of different militant outfits were arrested in the state since November last year and subsequently cases were registered against them.

While in 2009, only 56 rebels were arrested, state home minister Tako Dabi said in a communique.

He disclosed that a total number of 67 cadres from various underground outfits surrendered before security forces this year in comparison to last year's surrender by 55 militants.

"The overall cases registered under IPC, local and special acts during the period from October 2009 to October this year is 2,866," he said adding the home department is consistently acting against anti-socials as a confidence-building measure among the people.

While appreciating the state police, central para-military forces, army personnel and Assam Rifles for their sincere efforts and coordination in handling underground activists taking in Arunachal Pradesh, Dabi said the government is committed in protecting lives and properties of the people and bringing peace to the state.

"If general masses, youths, intellectuals and civil society cooperate, the home department can deliver best in bringing a congenial atmosphere for well-being of all sections of the people," he added.

Meanwhile, Dabi has appealed kidnappers to release the employee of Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation Limited (APMDCL) without any pre-conditions.
