Cold weather was no deterrent for 1,400 people who "ran for passion" in Gandhinagar on Sunday. Organised by the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT), the Youth Run saw participation from people from all age groups.
Anubha Gupta, coordinator of the media team, described the run as 'an awakening.' The theme of 'passion' had originated from a survey conducted by the institute to judge how many students were actually studying engineering as their own choice. The result convinced the organisers that most people opted for this profession out of pressure. So this run was organised to tell the youth to wake up to their passion.
With choice between a 5km and an 8km run, the event had people from all walks of life- students, professors and even defence personnel.
A seminar was also organised to further highlight the theme. Five eminent speakers who had risen to fame from a very low point were chosen. Kaushal Mehta (founder and CEO of Motif Inc.), Madhusudan Kela (director Reliance, ADAG), Shekhar Patel (MD, Ganesh Housing) and RooshiKumar Pandya (corporate trainer, member of board of directors of eight companies including Sintex) shared their passion with the participants The members of the panel, through their life stories, inspired the youth to be passionate about whatever they chose.
