A 13-year-old boy working as a domestic help for a central government official has been rescued by an NGO with the help of police.
The boy was allegedly made to work for long hours, not given proper food, and tortured.
On Wednesday, the Navrangpura police swung into action after NGO, Insaniyat, lodged a complaint with the police.
The boy’s uncle Shankar Yadav who works at Jagannath temple had approached the NGO after he came to know that his nephew was being meted out “inhuman” treatment by the officer at his official residence.
Insaniyat president Mohan Bundela told DNA, “On Wednesday, Yadav approached us for help to rescue his nephew. He told us that the officer was harassing the boy and asking him to work for long hours. The boy was locked in a room and was not provided with proper food. He was asked to work till midnight and start the day from early in the morning. He was also threatened not to complain about this to anyone.’’
