With 13 fresh cases of dengue, the total number of patients suffering from the vector-borne disease in the national capital climbed to 1,054 today.

The city has reported over 400 cases of dengue in the last fortnight but the number of cases per day has been declining over the past few days. The per day figure was 9, 10, 13 and 13 and 13 in the last five days while earlier, around 20 to 25 cases were being daily reported.

"With 13 fresh positive cases of dengue, the total has reached 1,054. There are 13 cases in which the infection has been contracted from outside Delhi," Debashish Bhattacharya, Delhi government's nodal officer for dengue, told PTI.

The cases of the disease were negligible from June to September this year, but had surged drastically since mid-October. Officials said this was due to the late arrival of monsoon in the city.

They said with the temperatures expected to go down further, the spread of the disease can be contained soon. "The cases are expected to go down gradually," Bhattacharya said.

The lowest temperature in city had been below the 10-degree mark for the last five days. The minimum was recorded at 10.5 degrees Celsius today. The city has reported two confirmed and one suspected dengue deaths so far.
